Review
What is the Test?
Required tests in reading, writing, and math.
Currently the test consists of:
** a
sentence skills test, and the possibility of a written essay
** a vocabulary and reading comprehension skills tests
** a math test.
Who Must Take the Test?
All first-time, full-time students. Additionally, any student who wants to take a writing or math course.
When Can It Be Taken?
Placement
Testing Hours:
Call the Assessment Center at (815) 224-0542 to
schedule an appointment. Allow 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 hours for the test.
Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 AM
Wednesday and Thursday at 4 PM
Check in for the Placement Test starts 15 minutes
before test time.
What Do You Do Before and After the Test?
Before:
1. Fill out an
application.
2. Send
the application and an official high school transcript to the Admissions Office.
3. Apply for Financial
Aid/Scholarships.
After:
1. Meet with a
counselor.
2.
Register for classes.
3. Pay tuition and fees.
4. Attend
the Preview: an introduction to the staff, layout, classes, and
activities of IVCC.
How Long Are Placement Results Valid?
Placement results from IVCC or any other college are not valid after a 2 year period, unless a student has successfully completed coursework in the particular subject.
Can the Test be Retaken?
Request for Retake forms may be obtained in the Assessment Center in E-215 or by calling (815) 224-0542.
IVCC Placement Retest Policy and Fees
I took the ACT - Do I still have to take the IVCC Placement Test?
IVCC will accept ACT scores that are submitted to the admissions office directly from ACT or on an official High School Transcript.
| English ACT sub-score of 22 or higher | ENG 1001/1205 |
| Reading ACT sub-score of 23 or higher | Reading Requirement is Waived |
| Math ACT sub-score of 24 or higher | MTH 1000, 1003, 1008, 1009, 1010*** |
***Students who want or need to take a higher math course will need to take the IVCC Placement test.
