Nursing Admissions

Admission into the Nursing Program is competitive. It is highly recommended that students interested in pursuing a career in nursing meet with their counselor each semester and attend a Nursing Information Session. In order to be considered for the nursing program, a student must file a letter of intent with the Admissions Office in the fall of the year prior to being admitted. These letters are available September 1-December 1 each year.

Nursing Information Sessions

These sessions are presented by a Counselor and an Admissions Representative. A Nursing Department Representative is also present. These sessions are essential in the planning process for application to the nursing program. The format allows time for questions, but space is limited! Please contact the Office of Admissions at (815) 224-0439 or email Kathy_Sramek@ivcc.edu to reserve your space.

Online version of the Nursing Information Session--sound is required.

Information about the Nursing Program

Currently there are positions for 60 RN (Associate Degree Nursing) and 20 LPN (Certificate) students with acceptance for the fall semester only.

Nursing Information Worksheets are available in the Counseling Center to help students understand the pre-requisites, the preparation coursework, the formula for admission, and the program itself. This information is covered in the Nursing Information Session, as well as in an individual counseling session.

Preference is given to those applicants who are legal residents of IVCC district #513. Residency is defined as living in district 30 days prior to the deadline for the Letter of Intent. Non-residents will be considered for admission only after all qualified and eligible district residents have been offered admission. If a student works full-time in-district, they will be considered in-district residents. Proof of employment will be required.

Dual Admissions Agreements

IVCC currently has dual admissions agreements with Illinois Central College and Sauk Valley Community College for students attending or paying taxes to Midland School District, Fieldcrest School District, Henry-Senachwine School District, and Bureau Valley School District. This agreement allows students to attend either community college at in-district tuition rates. Students will be coded as out-of-district and may be asked to prove residency with the Cashier to receive the in-district rate.

Important note: This does not imply residency for the purpose of admissions into limited admissions programs such as nursing. Students who reside out of the district and within these dual admissions areas are still considered out-of-district for the nursing program and will be admitted only after all qualified in-district applicants have been admitted.
