Purpose
The purpose of the New Student Convocation is to formally welcome new students to IVCC and introduce students to the faculty, administration and staff. The day begins with the ceremony in the Cultural Centre, where students learn about the academic regalia, student activities and organizations, and about the contributions of alumni to our community.

Contributions of IVCC and LPO Alumni
Since 1924, LPO Junior College and IVCC have provided a quality education to the Illinois Valley and beyond. Our alumni have gone on to great things—from legendary coaches and teachers to world-renowned physicians and inventors. IVCC alumni have excelled in the areas of athletics, business, science, politics, and law. A small number of our alumni have been inducted into the IVCC-LPO Hall of Fame and their contributions to society are immeasurable. At New Student Convocation, we will share with you some of their accomplishments in the hopes of inspiring you to make a difference in your communities and in the lives of others, not only while you are here at IVCC but as you graduate and move on to the next chapters of your lives.

Student Clubs and Organizations
One of the goals of the New Student Convocation is to introduce you to all of the amazing things that we have to offer to you at IVCC. There are several ways that you can get involved and organizations you can join during your time as a student at IVCC. Many of these organizations will be available during the Spirit Day Picnic. Please take a few moments to view this short presentation and learn about which groups might fit for you and how to get involved.

Spirit Day
Following the ceremony, the students participate in breakout sessions that emphasize classroom expectations, the IVCC core values, and students have the opportunity to share concerns that they face as they begin their college career. This is the basis for future programs that IVCC will offer to help students to be successful.

The final event of the day is the student picnic. This is an opportunity for students to mingle with faculty and staff in an informal environment, to learn about clubs and organizations, and to simply have fun.
