Veteran's Educational Guidebook

The new Veteran's Educational Guidebook is now available. The guidebook includes information pertaining to services offered at IVCC, GI Bill benefits, grants and scholarships, and V.A. resources. You can download a copy below.

GI Bill Benefits

Students can receive monthly GI Bill benefit checks for attending classes.  The new Post 9/11 benefits went into effect on 8/1/09.Under this program, students can receive monthly housing allowance, tuition assistance, and book allowance for attending classes.  They must be enrolled in a degree or certificate program that has been approved by the Veterans Administration Office.

Students wanting information about how to apply for GI Bill benefits should contact Ida Brown, V.A. Certifying Official for IVCC. Ida can be found in the Financial Aid Office, Room C-223 or by phoning 815.224.0200.

Veterans’ Standards of Progress

A veteran receiving GI Bill benefits can be placed on Academic Caution and still receive benefits the following term.  Once a student has been placed on Academic Caution, the student is required to meet with an IVCC counselor prior to being allowed to enroll in future terms.  If a student’s academic status does not meet satisfactory progress the next term of enrollment, the student will be moved to Academic Warning and the student’s benefits will be terminated.  A student can still enroll in classes after being placed on Academic Warning; however, the student will not receive GI Bill benefits.  A student’s academic status must be returned to Good Standing to receive future GI Bill benefits. 

A student will not be placed on Academic Caution until a student has attempted a total of at least twelve (12) semester hours of credit.  This excludes remedial credits (0800 or 0900 course levels).  Since college credit is not granted for remedial credits, they do not count toward the hours attempted credits.  IVCC’s scholastic requirement to remain in good standing is 2.0.
