Guide to searching for classes using WebAdvisor

For a word document with all of these instructions, click here and print.

Search for a specific class

Search for all classes in one subject area (ex. All accounting classes)

Search for all night classes

Search for classes at a particular extension site

Search for all online classes

Search for all distance learning classes

Search for a class to fit a specific time (ex. I need a 10:00 class)

Search by instructor

Search by keyword (ex. The class is something like statistics)

Search for 2nd 8 week classes only

Search for classes for a specific day (ex. Saturday classes or MWF only)

Search for ALL classes for a term (this can be a big list)

 

On the main WebAdvisor screen, choose search for classes. No login is required for this part of WebAdvisor.

 

Search for a specific class

·               Select the term from the drop down. Do not use the dates.

·               Select the subject from the drop down. You can type the first letter in to find it quicker.

·               Enter the course number. Leave the level box blank.

·               Click on the submit button just once. This will give you a listing of the possible options.

Search for all classes in one area (ex. All accounting classes)

·               Select the term from the drop down. Do not use the dates.

·               Select the subject from the drop down. You can type the first letter in to find it quicker.

·               Click on the submit button just once. This will give you a listing of the possible options.

Search for all night classes

·               Select the term from the drop down. Do not use the dates.

·               Go to the box that says Section Meeting After and select 17:00 (5:00 pm)

·               If you want to limit this to only the classes here at IVCC, go to the location box and select MC for main campus. If you want all night classes, do not use this setting.

·               Click on the submit button just once. This will give you a listing of the possible options.

Search for classes at a particular extension site

·               Select the term from the drop down. Do not use the dates.

·               Go to the location box and select MC for main campus.

·               Enter the right section for the extension site you want:

o       Ottawa High School (403 night or 503 day)

o       Ottawa Marquette (400 night or 500 day)

o       Princeton (410 night or 510 day)

o       Streator (407 night or 507 day)

o       Mendota (502 day or 402 night)

o       Serena (504 day)

o       St. Bede (505 day only)

o       L-P High School (508)

o       Hall (506 day only)

           Click on the submit button just once. This will give you a listing of the possible options.

Search for all online classes

·               Select the term from the drop down. Do not use the dates.

·               In the location box, select IN for internet classes.

·               Click on the submit button just once. This will give you a listing of the possible options.

Search for all distance learning classes

·               Select the term from the drop down. Do not use the dates.

·               In the section box on the right side, enter 100 in one box, 101 in another box, 102 in another box and 150 in the fourth box. This will give you all of the online, telecourse, and blended courses for the term.

·               Click on the submit button just once. This will give you a listing of the possible options.

Search for a class to fit a specific time (ex. I need a 10:00 class)

·               Select the term from the drop down. Do not use the dates.

·               In the times box, select meetings meeting after (enter time) and sections ending before (enter time).

·               If you want to narrow by days, click the appropriate days of the week.

·               Click on the submit button just once. This will give you a listing of the possible options.

Search by instructor

·               Select the term from the drop down. Do not use the dates.

·               Enter the instructor’s name in the Instructor box. If you don’t know the spelling, use the website at www.ivcc.edu.

·               Click on the submit button just once. This will give you a listing of the possible options.

Search by keyword (ex. The class is something like statistics)

·               Select the term from the drop down. Do not use the dates.

·               Use the word or words you think are in the title. The more general the word (math), the broader the list. The more specific, the narrower the list.

·               Click on the submit button just once. This will give you a listing of the possible options.

Search for 2nd 8 week classes only

·               This time you use the date function rather than the term. Enter the midterm date (available on the college calendar) as the first date and the last date of the semester as the second date.

·               Click on the submit button just once. This will give you a listing of the possible options.

Search for classes for a specific day (ex. Saturday classes or MWF)

·               Select the term from the drop down menu. Do not use the dates.

·               Check the box next to Sat. box. or check the Mon, Wed, and Fri boxes.

·               Click on the submit button just once. This will give you a listing of the possible options.

·               This will give you all classes that meet on Saturday. Be aware that some classes may have additional meeting times.

Search for ALL classes for a term (this can be a big list!)

·               Select the term from the drop down menu. Do not use the dates.

·               Select UG from the Academic Level box at the bottom (it is the only choice).

·               Click on the submit button just once. This will give you a listing of the possible options. **It may take a few minutes to process because it is a large list.
