Course Materials:
notebook, pencil and scientific calculator such as TI-30X IIS
COURSE DESIGN
1.       Read each section of your book, taking notes and learning vocabulary as you go and pay close attention to the author’s examples.

2.       Work the problems in the “Exercises” as given. These should be done in a notebook and submitted for teacher review by the date indicated. Homework (HW) papers should include hour name, course number, and chapter and section number. Number each problem and show your work neatly.

3.       Once your HW is submitted, complete the “Cumulative Practice” sheet (CP sheet) provided by the instructor using your book and notes; submit it for grading. CP sheets may be started in one class and finished in the next class, but may not be taken home. After two class days, unfinished CPs will be graded. Check with an instructor to know your grade.
All CP sheets must be done in class.

a)      If you score 14 or higher you will be allowed to continue in the chapter or take the test as appropriate.

b)      If you score 13 or lower you will need to review the sections and do the problems suggested by the instructor. Then do another form of the CP sheet.

Each CP is worth 20 points – no partial credit will be given. CP sheets must be returned to an Instructor.

 4.       You are now ready to take the test. Present a completed test request form (blue card) to an instructor to receive your test. Tests must be completed in one sitting. Turn in your test with the work shown on the test to an instructor or a student helper. (If scratch paper is used, please be neat and paperclip it to your test.)

5.       If your test is not graded before the class period ends, your score will be on the blue card at the attendance station the next time you come to class.

6.   Grades are posted in the grade book portion of Blackboard. To check your grades go to http://ivcc.blackboard.com/ and follow the log-in instructions below. Your username consists of the first 3 letters of your last name and last 4 digits of your Social Security Number (SSN).  Your password is the first three digits of your SSN. Please change your password when you first log on to Blackboard.  You can change your password by clicking on Personal Information in the left menu. Then click on Change Password and follow the instructions on the screen.

7.       You must pass each test with a minimum score of 75. If you score lower than 75, you will be given appropriate review work and will be required to    retake the test. You may also retake a test to raise your grade before progressing to the next chapter. The first time you take a test your maximum score is 100; the second time it is 91; the third time it is 82; the fourth time and all subsequent times it is 75.

If you need to retake a CP or a Test, you need to plan on coming in extra time to do so.

 8.   Completion of Tech Math I requires completion of all course requirements.

This course consists of:

8 tests 100 points each =   800
16 CP's 20 points each =   320
  Total points = 1120

9.  Progress/attendance checks will be done 3 times during the semester. If you initiate the progress/attendance check on time, you will receive 5 points. Be sure to sign the back of your grade card for each progress check.

10.   If you fall behind schedule, you may be withdrawn form the course (see white handout). If you withdraw from the course, you may re-enroll the follow semester and complete the remaining requirements. If you need advise, talk to an instructor.

                                             COURSE ASSIGNMENTS
