Welcome

Welcome to Women in Literature, Gender 2002.  This course is a general education course, which fulfills a humanities requirement toward your bachelor's degree. It has been accepted by IAI as an H3 911D course.

This course is taught traditionally in the classroom or online, which uses the Internet as a classroom, enabling students to participate as befits their own schedules in which case there are deadlines for the coursework, but there is no fixed meeting time for class sessions, just as there is no fixed place for class meetings.  Everything you will need to complete this course will be contained within you, your computer, and your bookshelf or desk.

The content and course work for this class online is the same as when it is being taught on campus, but because of the difference in its delivery, it may be slightly more time intensive in its online form than a regular "meet-in-the classroom" course; however, with this format of the course you will have a greater ability to tailor the time requirements to your own schedule.

Berthe Morisot's La Lecture, 1869-1870

As with other college classes, you should be able to invest about three hours per credit hour a week in completing the assignments and readings,  in whichever format you are taking it.  This means for this class you can expect to spend about nine hours per week on the coursework. This course, in either form, is not an introduction to computers but assumes you already have some knowledge of using word processing, e-mail, and Internet web-browsers (like Netscape or Explorer).  Students who would do well with non-traditional delivery method are likely to be highly motivated, responsible, and self-disciplined. The Online Learning page of Illinois Virtual Campus and the Student Safari can help you decide which format of the course is right for you.  Generally, the online version is taught in the Summer, while the traditional format is offered in the Fall.

Once you have determined that the course is right for you, please register and then send me an e-mail introducing yourself.  My address is Kimberly_Radek@ivcc.edu .  In the meantime, please feel free to browse through the links below and familiarize yourself with the course's navigation.  Please be aware as you do so, however, that changes may still be made to these pages until--and sometimes after--the course begins.
